Many of you have been asking about luggage regulations for travel.  For your flight to Kenya from Atlanta, the regulations are 2 checked bags, not weighing more than 50 pounds each.  If you go over the limit, you will be responsible for the excess charges.  Make sure you weigh your bag before you come to make sure it’s not over the weight limit.

Also, you need to check with your airline for your domestic flight to Atlanta when you come for training camp.  Many airlines only allow 1 bag for their domestic flights.  The excess charges can sometimes be a little steep.  Those charges are not reimbursable

  1. Keep in mind that regulations for domestic flights and international flights are different. So you want to make sure that when you check in at the airport they know that your final destination is International. You will probably have to pa extra because your bags are overweight, so be prepared!!!

  2. I was wondering what would be the best to pack in. Would you suggest suitcases or duffle bags, or my dad has a large north face back pack that he took to Ethiopia about 9 years ago. I am starting to pack things up soon and was just wondering what you thought would be best 🙂 thank you!!!

  3. Hey Amber! I’m going to bring a duffle bag just because it breaks down easily and isn’t so bulky to store while we’re there. The back pack is always a good idea too! That’s the route I would go, but suitcases would work fine as well.

  4. I second Beth’s suggestion. I’m bringing a sweet blue back-packing backpack for most of the things I’m bringing, and then maybe a small duffle if I need a second bag checked (which I’m not sure if I’ll need yet). Make sure you pack ALL important items in your carry on, as international luggage has a tendency of getting lost….. Normally you can find it, but it might be a week later. 🙂

  5. Thank you!!

I also wanted to ask because I was looking over the Real Life Handbook and saw that it might be possible to receive letter mail during the summer, but that it depended upon which trip, the location, and other things and to ask your team leaders if you would be able to receive letters. I have had a few friends ask if it would be possible to send me letters while in Kenya so I wanted to ask! Thank you both again very much!!
